The 8-part skull model for dentistry with TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) representation from Erler-Zimmer is an anatomical teaching and demonstration model for illustrating dental, jaw-related, and functional structures of the human skull. The model is based on a cast of a human skull and is designed for use in training, teaching, and professional demonstrations.
In addition to a general depiction of the skull, teeth, and jaw region, the model shows morphological features typically described in connection with craniomandibular dysfunction. These include, among other things, altered tooth surfaces, wear patterns in the disc area, and anatomical peculiarities in the temporomandibular joint and muscle region. The representation serves solely to illustrate functional relationships.
The front halves of the upper and lower jaw are removable, allowing views into the tooth roots, nerve and blood vessel pathways, and the maxillary sinuses. Additionally, masticatory muscles such as the masseter muscle (superficial and deep parts) and the coronoid part are separately rendered and removable to illustrate their location and function.
This model is intended for use in dental, orthodontic, physiotherapy, and anatomical education. It serves solely to illustrate anatomical and functional structures and is not intended for diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications. Use outside of its intended teaching and demonstration purpose is prohibited.
