The Pediatric Caudal Injection Simulator is a sophisticated training manikin that simulates the performance of caudal blocks and lumbar punctures in children. This manikin represents a 12-month-old infant in the left lateral decubitus position with the head and knees flexed, which is the position required for these procedures. The simulator is anatomically correct and provides a realistic representation of the coccyx and sacral hiatus to make practicing caudal injections and lumbar punctures as realistic as possible. Additionally, the manikin includes an embedded iliac crest, a removable spine, and two soft skin pads—one transparent for anatomical preparation and one opaque for advanced training. The manikin provides immediate feedback on correct needle placement, as fluid exudes when the needle is successfully inserted. This training device allows learners to practice both caudal injections and lumbar punctures in one simulator, making the learning process more efficient and realistic.
Areas of application:
-
Pediatric Surgery: Ideal for training anesthesiologists, surgeons, and nurses in performing caudal blocks and lumbar punctures in infants and young children
-
Medical Education: Perfect for training medical students and nurses who need to learn how to safely and effectively perform a caudal injection or lumbar puncture in children
-
Emergency medicine training: Helps simulate emergency situations where caudal injections are required
-
Training of anesthesiologists: Supports training in the administration of regional anesthesia in pediatric patients
Advantages at a glance:
-
Two procedures in one simulator: Allows you to practice caudal injections and lumbar punctures on a single model, saving time and resources
-
Anatomically correct: The simulator contains realistic details such as a correctly modeled coccyx, hiatus sacralis and spinal canal
-
Realistic tactile feedback: The simulator provides realistic resistance and immediate feedback when the needle is correctly positioned and fluid is withdrawn
-
Various skin pads: The transparent and opaque skin pads allow both anatomical studies and practical training under realistic conditions
-
Stability and ease of use: The model is mounted on a sturdy baseboard, which provides the necessary stability during the exercise
-
Practical application: The simulator helps learners develop important skills such as palpating landmarks, positioning the needle, and performing injections and punctures
Characteristics:
-
Anatomically correct and palpable
-
Correct body position (left lateral position with head and knees bent)
-
Easy replacement of skin pads for different training levels
-
Realistic resistance during needle insertion and backflow of fluid upon successful puncture
-
Transparent skin pad allows visualization of landmarks
-
Immediate feedback on successful needle placement
-
The model is mounted on a sturdy base board, which provides additional stability during training
Storage:
The model should be stored in a dry, cool place to ensure the longevity of the materials and the functionality of the model.
