The herniated disc simulator schematically depicts two lumbar vertebrae with an intervertebral disc between them, and is approximately twice the size of the actual model. Manually compressing the vertebral bodies simulates the mechanical displacement of the inner disc nucleus outwards. This makes it visible how the disc bulges and protrudes towards the spinal canal. The representation illustrates the anatomical relationships between the vertebral bodies, the intervertebral disc, and adjacent nerve structures, as well as the mechanical development of a herniated disc. The enlarged, high-contrast design allows for a clear visualization of the prolapse mechanics and the resulting compression of nerve structures. The model is designed for the clear demonstration of biomechanical processes in the lumbar spine.
