Glycolon from Resorba is a synthetic, monofilament, and rapidly absorbable surgical suture composed of a copolymer of glycolic acid (glycolide) and ε-caprolactone . It is available in either violet or undyed colors. Thanks to its smooth surface, the suture passes easily through tissue, causing minimal trauma, and offering high initial tensile strength with rapid absorption —ideal for short-term wound closures with reliable knot security.
Areas of application:
-
Intracutaneous and subcutaneous sutures
-
Skin sutures in plastic and aesthetic surgery
-
Gynecological and urological procedures
-
Pediatric Surgery
-
Soft tissue surgery with short support period
Advantages at a glance:
-
Monofilament, smooth thread – very gentle on fabric
-
Rapidly absorbable – complete mass resorption after approximately 90 days
-
Knot tensile strength of approximately 50% after 7–9 days
-
High primary stability with good knot security
-
No capillary action – low risk of infection
-
Coated surface for improved handling
-
Color variants: violet or undyed
-
Available thread sizes: USP 1 to 6/0
Further information:
Glycolon is particularly suitable for applications where short-term wound closure is desired and long-term suture support is not necessary. Absorption occurs completely and evenly via hydrolysis . Glycolon is sterile and available with various atraumatic needles.
