Mepitel by Mölnlycke is a sterile silicone mesh dressing for atraumatic wound coverage of granulating and sensitive wounds. The silicone coating allows for gentle adhesion to the surrounding skin without sticking to the moist wound bed or granulating tissue. This generally allows for gentle dressing changes and reduces the risk of mechanical irritation during removal. As a primary wound dressing, Mepitel is intended for use with a suitable secondary dressing to absorb exudate and helps maintain a moist wound environment. Depending on the wound condition, amount of exudate, and professional assessment, a longer dressing duration may be possible, in individual cases up to 14 days.
Application areas
The silicone mesh dressing is suitable for granulating wounds where non-adherent wound contact is required. It can be used for chronic wounds such as pressure ulcers, as well as venous or arterial ulcers, provided that local therapy and indications permit. Further applications include burn wounds and postoperative wound care for tissue-sparing coverage. Mepitel can also be used for patients with sensitive wounds when regular dressing changes are necessary and atraumatic removal is desired.
Advantages at a glance
The silicone mesh structure is designed for non-adherent wound contact and facilitates atraumatic dressing changes. Gentle removal reduces pain during changes and protects granulating tissue. The mesh structure allows exudate to pass into an overlying secondary dressing, thus helping to maintain a moist wound environment. Longer dressing wear times can reduce the frequency of changes, provided the wound condition allows and regular checks are performed. Sterile individual packaging supports hygienic workflows.
Further information
Mepitel is a non-adherent silicone mesh dressing supplied sterile and individually wrapped. The dressing is intended as a primary wound dressing for covering various acute and chronic wounds, particularly granulating wounds, burns, pressure ulcers, and postoperative wounds. The selection of secondary dressings, change intervals, and overall duration of use depend on the amount of exudate, wound condition, and professional assessment; manufacturer's instructions and local treatment standards must be observed.
