The CLEARTEST Procalcitonin (PCT) is a qualitative in-vitro diagnostic rapid test for determining the procalcitonin level in the blood. Procalcitonin is an established biomarker whose concentration can increase in severe bacterial infections and sepsis, and decrease again with appropriate therapy. The test supports a timely, preliminary assessment in the clinical setting.
The test result is available within approximately 15 minutes and can be used to differentiate between bacterial and viral infections. A defined cut-off value of 1 ng/ml serves as a guideline for assessing elevated procalcitonin concentrations. The test can also be used over time to monitor changes in procalcitonin levels.
The CLEARTEST Procalcitonin test is suitable for use in hospitals, emergency rooms, intensive care units, and neonatology, particularly in the care of newborns and premature infants. It is intended for use by medical professionals and supports decisions in diagnostics and therapy monitoring.
