Opraclean by Lohmann & Rauscher is a dressing impregnated with iodoform, made from 100% cotton gauze, for cleaning and treating contaminated and infected wounds. It was specially developed for the tamponade of deep wound cavities, fistulas, and hard-to-reach areas, and supports structured wound treatment in cases of increased risk of infection.
Upon contact with wound exudate, small amounts of iodine are continuously released. This creates an antimicrobial and antifungal effect that contributes to germ reduction. In vitro studies demonstrate its effectiveness against, among others, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Candida albicans. No resistance to iodine is known. At the same time, the gauze structure allows for effective absorption of exudate, cell debris, and germs.
Opraclean is suitable for acute and chronically infected wounds, postoperative wound care, and for exudating wounds with deep pockets or fistulas. The soft, absorbent, and adaptable material facilitates tamponade even in irregular wound conditions. The dressing is available in various lengths and widths and is used according to medical instructions.
