Opraclean® from Lohmann & Rauscher is a high-quality dressing made of 100% cotton gauze , impregnated with iodoform and specially developed for cleaning and treating contaminated wounds as well as for tamponing deep wound cavities and fistula tracts .
The antimicrobial and antifungal effect is achieved through the continuous release of small amounts of iodine when the dressing comes into contact with wound exudate. This supports effective microbial reduction without the risk of resistance development—even against common pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus , Klebsiella pneumoniae , and Candida albicans (confirmed by in vitro studies).
Opraclean is particularly suitable for tamponade of deep, exuding wound areas where reliable exudate absorption, cleansing and antimicrobial action are necessary.
