BD Vacutainer® PST™ II tubes are specially designed plasma tubes with separation gel for clinical chemistry diagnostics. They contain spray-dried lithium heparin or sodium heparin as an anticoagulant and enable rapid and reliable collection of gel-based plasma . The new PST™ II acrylic gel forms a stable separation layer between plasma and blood cells during centrifugation. This significantly reduces fibrin residue and cellular material, improving plasma purity and enhancing sample quality—ideal for routine and specialized analysis.
Areas of application
Plasma collection for routine clinical-chemical diagnostics
Suitable for special analytes such as hormones and medications
Use in laboratories, clinics, practices and diagnostic centers
Optimized for automated analysis procedures
Advantages at a glance
Plasma tubes with separation gel – stable and efficient
Spray-dried lithium or sodium heparin for rapid anticoagulation
Acrylic gel forms a stable diffusion barrier during centrifugation
Reduced fibrin and cell residues – high plasma purity
Compatible with numerous analyte systems
Stability of most analytes up to 24 h at 20–25 °C
No adsorption of drugs or hormones detected
Disposable product, sterile, ready to use
Further information
During centrifugation, the separating gel migrates upwards, reliably separating the cellular components from the plasma. The tubes should be stored at 4–25 °C and should not be pre-chilled or refrigerated during centrifugation to ensure a stable gel barrier. Best results are achieved at a centrifuge temperature between 20–25 °C .
Centrifugation conditions:
Standard: 1300–2000 xg for 10 minutes at 18–25 °C
Alternatively: 3000 xg for 5 minutes at 18–25 °C (according to BD study VS 7513)
